HISTORY
Before the arrival of Europe on the continent of America, the culture of Aztecs and Mayans was prevalent in present-day Mexico. And the people of this tribe achieved a lot of progress in the field of military tactics, architecture, mathematics and agriculture.
In 1521, the first war broke out between the Hernán Cortés of Spain and the Aztecs of Mexico. And with that victory, Hernán Cortés established Spain’s sovereignty over Mexico. 400 years after Spanish supremacy, the locals of Mexico invoked Mexico’s independence in 1921.
After many wars for independence, the Spaniards had to lean against the people of Mexico and Now the federal system in Mexico is a constitutional democracy.
ECONOMY
Like some countries in Asia and South America, Mexico’s economy is rapidly emerging. Mexico’s GDP is more than a trillion US dollars. The United States and Canada are its main trading partners and Mexico has a higher average growth rate than the two.
Mexico exports large amounts of oil. Mexico’s economy is based on exports to the United States and accounts for 82 percent of its total exports to the United States. The major driving force of Mexico’s economy is its oil exports. Moreover, Mexico has both public and private oil companies and more than half of the government’s revenue comes from oil. From 2010 to 2013, Carlos Slim Helú, the largest merchant and manufacturer of Mexican telecommunications, was the world’s richest man.
CULTURE
Mexican culture is probably one of the most interesting cultures in the world. The culture has become especially diverse with the addition of stories of the tribes, artistic expressions, and elements of the culture of ancient Mexico, A time long before Spaniards acquired the country.
The Mexicans are proud of their legacy, and so they continue many traditions and customs even today. Many of these traditions are found in Mexican music as The roots of the Aztec people, lies in the traditional songs and variety of rhythms.
The greatest influence of ‘Maya culture’ is found in Mexican paintings. ‘Spanish’ is the national language of Mexico as well as the language most commonly spoken by people. And even before the Spaniards arrived, about 62 different languages of natives of the region also spoken by the people of Mexico.
The views and attitude of Mexicans are very strong when it comes to Religion. Most people follow Roman Catholicism, yet they have not forgotten their Maya and Aztec cultures, and so they have incorporated the ancient goddesses and rituals of this culture into Catholicism.
CHARACTERISTICS OF PEOPLE
The combination of European and Native cultures is also found in the Mexican people’s clothing fashion. The natural characteristic of Mexican people is their love for festivals. Every Holiday, National, Religious or Local, is celebrated with great joy by the large number of people. There is a similarity between the Mexican people and the Indian people.
Celebrated Nine days before Christmas ‘Las Posadas’ is the most popular of all festivals in Mexico.
Mexicans are fond of music. And almost every Mexican is said to be able to play a musical instrument. Like Spain, bullfighting is a Mexican specialty. Although this competition between bull and man has been banned in many countries thus bullfighting is extremely popular in Mexico. And a lot of people gather to watch this fight. Similar to bullfighting, but.. Not extremely dangerous to humans, ‘Rooster fights’ are also popular in Mexico.
MARRIAGE
In Mexican weddings, a Husband-Wife is selected as ‘godparents’. And they become the sponsors and the beneficiaries of the couple’s marriage. Godparents offer a Bible and a Rosary to the couple.
In another ritual, the Priest gives the Groom 13 Gold coins which he then presents to the bride.
CUISINE
Mexican cuisine and general dining have a wide variety of flavors and substances. In the cuisine that was prevalent before the arrival of the Spanish people, Mexico added a wide variety of pepper spices to both Non-vegetarian and Vegetarian foods, with the addition of Spanish and European-style dishes.
Mexican food is prevalent worldwide and in 2010, UNESCO incorporated Mexican food into the world’s cultural heritage.
Mexico has a large number of recipes under different names in different regions, and many of these dishes are served as ‘Mexican Food’ in most countries around the world.
Mexican Meatballs, Tacos, Guacamole, Enchiladas are quite famous and well-known dishes in Mexico and around the world.
