The tourism and hospitality industry was one of the first sectors to be affected by COVID-19. Not only small but also large businesses in the industry are on the verge of collapsing. It is causing a chain reaction towards recession because it will cause lots of people their livelihood. According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, as many as 100 million jobs supported by travel and tourism are currently at risk. Rebuilding of Tourism and Hospitality Sector during ongoing COVID-19 era is their only hope.


Why is an immediate rebuilding of Tourism and Hospitality Sector necessary?

Airlines, bus and train companies, hotels, restaurants, attractions, travel agencies, tour operators, online travel entities, and many others are affected harshly. Not only the companies and businesses but also the livelihood of many people are about to shut. Rebuilding of Tourism and Hospitality Sector can surely help all these people. But, we also need to do this quickly.

An immediate rebuilding of the Tourism and Hospitality Sector is inevitable. The reason behind this is that reviving such a large industry is a relatively lengthy process. For the Tourism and Hospitality industry to start again, the companies have to go through various difficulties. For instance, Airlines need to follow norms that the governments make and implements. But, making rules and implementing them is itself a long process. Also, it is not monetarily super convenient for both companies and consumers. There are other problems like convincing the consumer about their health safety.

Also, as the industry is a chain industry, all the players need to be in the market. If even one of the sectors is closed, it affects all the others. For instance, on a tourist spot you find all the hotels closed, where would you stay. Or no tourist attractions are open than who will come to stay in the hotels. This chain reaction would take years for the industry to restart if we don’t start today. 


How should we rebuild the Tourism and hospitality sector during the ongoing COVID-19 era?

Now we know that we need to rebuild the Tourism and hospitality sector quickly, but how can we do this during the ongoing COVID-19 era? Also, what are the steps that we must consider to make this industry more sustainable for the future?

With the vaccination process going well in most countries, we can hope for the best. But, the challenges for the industry to flourish again are not small. To get the Tourism and Hospitality sector back on track, the tourists and the governments of different countries need to work together. Also, the industry itself needs to improvise its way of offering the services to the consumers. 

Measure to be taken by the government of all nations are as follows:

  • Supporting tourism businesses to adapt and survive the COVID-19 era.
  • Strengthening co-operation within and between countries for tourists.
  • Providing clear information to travelers and Hospitality businesses.

Whereas, steps to be taken by the businesses in the industry are as follows:

  • Restoring traveler confidence by providing services according to government norms.
  • Improvising the ways of doing business and making it more flexible for the consumers to adapt.
  • Renovate the methods of marketing and promoting the business.

Lastly, the tourist also needs to take care of the following things while traveling in the COVID-era:

  • Follow all the government guidelines while traveling or staying at a hotel.
  • Try to ensure the safety of yourself, other travelers alongside, and the tourism industry personnel too.
  • Promote the right place to travel and stay in the traveler’s community so that others can travel safely too.

Tourism and Hospitality is an industry on which many people are dependent. So, please support rebuilding it fast and better than ever. It sure is a challenge to rebuild this industry but, together we can achieve the impossible.
