This piece “What they don’t teach you in Hospitality Schools”, is focused on things or skills which are very much needed for Hoteliers but the Hospitality Schools aren’t actually teaching them! So, This piece will help you to understand, industry needed skill-sets, and How can you develop it with the help of yourself!

Don’t try to miss it! It’s going to be something worthy and interesting!

So, without playing the Blame game, Let’s dive into the Details.

One clear thing is that, If you want to actually grow in the Hospitality Industry then you should always focus on developing relevant skill-sets, and this article is going to help you to achieve those milestones of your professional life.

So, without waiting, Let me throw some light on it…

  1. Customer Service Skills

    Our Hospitality Education system is much focused on teaching, decades old stuff to the new generation students, and they actually lack at teaching real-time survival skills for the industry.
    Well, The Core of Hospitality Industry is Humanity!
    Now, connecting with Guests or assisting them or taking care of them is the top priority of our business. So, We as Hoteliers must need to develop Customer service skills to provide them Comfortable or desired environment!
    At the end, we must remember… the guest’s perception should be our reality. Now, To develop customer service skills, you can simply work on fulfilling guest needs effectively, you can analyze the problems faced by guests and you can try to resolve them! You can learn about the guest’s mindset as what they actually desire from the Hotels, or you can simply work on your communication skills to talk with the guests, as it will help you to understand them better! So, that’s how you’ll improve your customer service skills by providing desire environment to the guests!

  2. People Management Skills

    When it comes to Growth, Sky is the limit in Hospitality Industry! Each one of us will grow, and we will get a team to execute daily operations!
    So, here… We must need to learn People Management skills to manage our team and to bring an effective outcome for the organization! Lacking this skill-set means stopping the growth of the organization!
    Start working on this skill, become People’s person, Learn about managing human resources and Learn about mentoring teams! and… That’s how you’ll develop People Management skills.

  3. Conflict Resolution

    This skill-set is interconnected with our first skill which is Customer service. If you start working on either of the skills then the other one will automatically starts improving! Conflict resolution is all about solving customer problems with swift and thoughtful solutions. This skill is also known as Problem solving skill, Now if you want to polish or learn this skill, the real time experiences or observations would be the best teacher! So, keep your ears and eyes open, run your mind, start learning about blocking objections, than you’ll automatically come up with the solutions of the potential problems!
    And that’s how you’ll improve the Customer Service experience too!

  4. Public Speaking Skills

    Here we are talking about Speaking techniques, Language efficiency and Tone management, which will help you to manage people or your team more easily, Now just to let you know… this skill will enrich or support the People management skill and It will help you to come out as a potential leader, who is well understood by their people. So, Learn about Public Speaking and It will definitely help you in your Hospitality growth Journey!

  5. Creativity

    Now, Be Creative, Be thoughtful, Try to understand, Try to come up with the solution which is Attractive and Pleasant. Because… In hospitality, Creativity is everything! How you leave guests feeling after an interaction is very important in today’s hospitality landscape.
    So… to become Creative, Start brainstorming, start understanding guest desires, work on customer service skills, always try to give more than expected and execute your decisions with certain style. And that’s how you will become a creative Hotelier!

These were the things, near to none hospitality schools are teaching nowadays but these things or skills are very important for Hoteliers for their growth & professional journey!

Please, start implementing these things into your life, ask questions to yourself and come up with relevant ways to become skilled and Industry ready!
